Dear Parent/Guardian of KHS Senior,

As you start thinking about where your senior might be going to college or technical school you might want to know about vaccines that may be required to enroll in these institutions.

Many colleges and other secondary schools require some or all of these vaccines: Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (Tdap), Meningitis vaccine, 2 doses of Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR), 3 doses of Hepatitis B, and 2 doses of Hepatitis A.

Meningitis vaccine prevents bacterial meningitis which is an infection of the spinal fluid that is in the spinal column and surrounding the brain. Meningitis can lead to death, brain damage, loss of limb and deafness.

Hepatitis B is the blood born or sexually transmitted type of Hepatitis.

Hepatitis A is the type contracted from contaminated food or water.

Pertussis is commonly called whooping cough. The country has been experiencing more cases of whooping cough (Pertussis) in young adults.

These vaccines can be obtained for persons under 18 years of age at the Panhandle Health District 114 W Riverside Kellogg, ID. Phone: 786-7474 for a vaccine appointment. Or contact your Health Care Provider.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the above telephone number.

Sincerely,

Sharon Black, R.N.
District School Nurse
