One of my most intriguing acheivements happened when I was 5th grade.
In 5th grade I was in a non-cirricular program for gifted and talented kids.
It was called G/T. During G/T the kids did many competitions.
The one that I remember the most is called the "Invention Convention". This as a competition in
where many kids throughout the United Sates
competed while making their own version of and invention they thought of. Well my friend Silas Domy and I
thought of an invention called the "Sort-o-Saurus".It was an invention that would sort all of your nuts and bolts that you had in your shop, but it didn't only
sort nuts and bolts. You could program many things into the Sort~o~Saurus. Our invention had a built in computer in which would tell the dividers when to
open and close. Not only can it sort nuts and bolts, in can sort the follownig if you program into the computer when to open and close: clothes, bulliten board tacks,
necklaces, rings, and other various jewelry.
Silas and I went to state for winning the regional competition for the Invention Convention. That day I had been with Silas the whole day cruising
around Coeur d' Alene until the competition. We went to the mall and to Pizza Hut to have dinner before we had to sit and wait for 2 hours until they
announced the winners. We looked around at many other inventions. There were at least 4 other designs we could have done. Including: Game Boards,
Non-Working Inventions, Working Inventions, and Improvements to Other Inventions. We chose to do Non-Working Inventions.
Well, we waited all day for this event, and finally it had come. We were at the headquarters where our inventions were at. "The category Non-WorkingInventions please report to the officials booth. I repeat Category Non-Working Inventions please report to the officials booth", boomed over the loudspeaker.
I was so nervous, this was what I had been waiting for hours to hear. The outcome of the competition. We sat waiting for 20 minutes until the lady stated
announcing names. After 5 minutes of getting to our age category we were on the edge of our seats. I don't recall who got third, but i was thinking,"Oh man, we didn't get to go to stat". Then second place was announced, and I though negative again. Finally first place was announced and they said our names. At first I didn't know how to react until finally a reporter asked me how it felt to win first place, and my emotinos were let out. I was jumping for joy and everything. Silas's mom said that it was like I had taken 12 caffeine pills right before the competitnion and they kicked in when we won.
