Our goal is EAT SMART PLAY HARD. Together we can have children who have the skills to choose good balanced meals and snacks and get plenty of wholesome activity.
No one food gives you all the nutrients you need to stay healthy, so it is best to eat a variety of different foods every day. Use the Food Guide Pyramid to help you eat better every day. Start with plenty of breads, cereals, rice, and pasta 6 to 11 servings a day. Add 2 to 3 servings from the milk group and 2 to 3 servings from the meat group. The fruits and vegetables should have 5 servings a day. Go easy on fats, oils, and sweets.
Better health is an individual responsibility, and it is an important national goal. When it comes to your health, even little steps can make a big difference. When America and Americans are healthier, our whole society benefits. If you're interested in improving America, you can do so by taking care of your own body. Take a small step for America by exercising on a daily basis.
Milk is nutrient dense and an important part of our children's diet. Unfortunately, America's low calcium intake is a major public health problem. The majority of Americans, including children, do not meet daily calcium requirements. Consider these statistics:
- Seven out of ten preteen girls and six out of ten preteen boys (ages 6 to 11) do not meet their calcium needs.
- Nearly nine out of ten teenage girls and seven out of ten teenage boys (ages 12-19) do not meet daily calcium recommendations.
- A well balance diet including 3 a day of dairy can make a difference.
Why breakfast???
- Kids do better in school and are more alert when they eat breakfast.
- It lets kids be more creative and perform better with increased attention span and memory.
- Kids feel good and complain less of headaches and stomachaches from being hungry.
- Kids who eat breakfast miss fewer days and are late less often.
- It improves kids' behavior and attitude.
- Breakfast provides nutrients kids need to grow and develop.
