Science Abounds at Canyon

Check out the Wednesday edition of the Shoshone News-Press and see coverage of our cold, but successful field study in the wetlands. Much thanks to Dana Vawter for getting the information and photo to them. Plans are in the works for a continued partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to "adopt" those wetlands as an ongoing outdoor study lab. Also, check out the "creatures" being hatched around the school - ladybugs, butterflies and flowers in K/1, eggs and cabbages in 2/3 and sea monkeys in 4/5. What a menagerie!

Trout in the Classroom

Another possible ongoing Science project for our school is Trout in the Classroom. Working with Trout Unlimited, we would raise trout and plant them in a local river or lake that we have studied and determined to be a good location for fish. As a staff, we will discuss this idea and determine the feasibility for next year. Thanks again to Dana for making the initial contacts for this program, and beginning the discussion.

ISAT Testing

I just want to send out a special thanks to all staff who assisted in Canyon's recent ISAT testing. Bev and Brenda - Thanks for stepping in and taking care of classrooms when teachers were giving the ISATs. Sherrie and Brenda - Thanks for the patient work with individual students as they completed the test. Staff - Thanks for being flexible and ready to step in wherever help was needed - recess duty, lunch duty, etc. And a BIG thanks to everyone for caring about our Canyon students and working so hard to help them achieve success!
